Gemstone Meanings

GemostonesWe thought it would be interesting to describe and let you know a little about the meaning of the semiprecious/gemstones, crystals and beads we use in our jewelry in addition to what these stones are believed to be good for.






Agate

AgateAgateA variety of the quartz family and native to Egypt, Agate is considered a protection stone. It is also one of the oldest stone in recorded history and considered prized gems in ancient times. Considered to attract strength, balance your aura and spiritual growth, it is also thought of as the stone for good health. Agate is the June birthstone. Agates come in a variety of color and variations in the stones allowing for the possibility of beautiful and unique designs. Many of our designs are made with agate stones such as our signature piece the Multicolored and gold set shown here on the right.  




Alabaster

AlabasterAlabasterAlso a very ancient stone used for sculptures, vases and jars, its translucent qualities lends itself perfect for jewelry. The purest of the alabaster stones are snow-white but it is stained to obtain different colors. One of our most delicate designs is made in a beautiful lavender colors. The rarest of all is the black alabaster and it has a very distinct look to it. Alabaster is a popular stone because it is soft and easy to use in jewelry making. Ancient Egyptians used alabaster in many forms such as in small perfume bottles, oil jars and lamps. Today, alabaster is still used for decorative home accessories, sculptures and of course for jewelry beads. 




Lapis Lazuli

Lapis LazuliLapis LazuliThis stone is truly ancient gem and very closely associated with Egyptian history. It was in many societies valued higher than gold. Many of the ancient Egyptian treasures and paintings are decorated with lapis lazuli as it was believed to offer protection and the stone of wisdom. Considered to be the symbol of truth, it is used when meditating as it is said to bring harmony to your heart and mind and to bring harmony in relationships. The stone is a beautiful deep blue with gold flecks of pyrite. Lapis lazuli is the December birthstone.




Turquoise

TurquoiseTurquoiseTurquoise is one of the oldest known stone and it was used in many pieces of jewelry in ancient Egypt and identified as a symbol of wealth and friendship. It is a very recognizable and popular stone and used in many or our designs. This stone is believed to be a protection from harm and if given a turquoise by a friend it will protect the wearer from negative energy and bring good fortune. Many believe that Turquoise takes on the characteristics of the owner and that it is an excellent conductor for general healing of many illnesses. Turquoise is a greenish-blue or pale sky blue in color and it is the December birthstone.




Crystals

CrystalsCrystalsCrystals are fairly common stones but they come in a variety of beautiful colors. Crystal are used in healing and are believed to amplify the energies and for meditation. Certain crystals, like the rose quartz, are the symbol of unconditional love. Some of the healing qualities of crystals are that it supplies strength and energy, encourage clarity of the mind and improves perception and understanding. Crystals come in a variety of colors, from the pink rose quartz to the amber looking smokey quartz. All are used in jewelry and add a sparkle and twinkle to any piece. Defintiely a favorite among the ladies !!
